Most of today’s reading was concerned with the life of Joseph, one of the younger sons of Jacob. The story of Joseph has always been one of my favorite accounts in Scripture, and I always find something new and interesting when I read the story. One thing that really stood out to me that I had never really considered before was that God chose Joseph for the special mission of preserving his family. Although Joseph acted foolishly in sharing his dreams with his brothers, the dreams were still given to him by God. Joseph was destined to become a great leader in order to deal with a critical problem threatening the survival of many nations. The circumstances that brought Joseph to that position were not necessarily caused by God. God did not motivate his brothers to mistreat him and sell him into slavery. But in spite of their actions, God’s plan for Joseph’s life could not be frustrated. God used Joseph through these unusual circumstances to ensure that the nation he was creating could grow and thrive.
